What if I am new to fishing?

No experience is necessary! If you are an inexperienced fisherman or want to bring a child don’t be discouraged. There are mangrove shorelines, flats, and beaches that provide limitless opportunities for beginning or advanced anglers. Chris is dedicated to sharing his knowledge to ensure a memorable fishing experience for everyone. He will even bait your hook and cast for you. Everyone starts somewhere and we would love it if you did it with us.

What kind of boat?

Our new custom 2024 Shoalwater 23 Cat, is powered by a Mercury ProXS 200 four-stroke motor. The large front casting platform and rear deck provide ample room for 4-6 anglers to fish comfortably. Drafting only 8 inches, the Shoalwater Cat is capable of navigating the shallow waters along the Nature Coast of Florida and the chop of the bays in the Tampa Bay area. The vessel has large live wells, state-of-the-art electronics, first aid, trauma kits, and all safety equipment required by law and the USCG, and the U.S. Coast Guard is inspected annually. Our boat is serviced and maintained regularly so you’re always safe while out on the waters. Captain Chris obeys all state laws and regulations as safety is a priority.

Where and when do we meet?

We use three dock locations. The captain will determine which location and time depending on your specific trip. (Directions below)

  • Rober J. Strickland Memorial Park
  • Hernando Beach boat ramp
  • Anclote River boat ramp

  • The remaining balance must be paid in full to the captain at the time of your arrival.
  • We accept cash, Venmo, and credit cards.
  • Bookings made within 24 hours of charter start time are non-refundable or transferable unless the Captain cancels the trip for weather or mechanical issues.
  • 8 am charters must be canceled before 8 am the day before the charter for it to be counted as 24 hours.
  • The captain may cancel the Fishing Charter for weather or mechanical issues at any time. You will be rescheduled or refunded if you are not able to reschedule.
  • If you cancel last minute you leave a captain onshore without someone to go fishing with. Within the 24-hour window, they likely passed up the opportunity to take someone else. Let’s just go fishing.

What if the weather is bad?

Florida’s weather is unique. Trips may be rescheduled for unfavorable weather conditions at the Captain’s discretion.  If the captain thinks you will not be able to enjoy your trip, then he will cancel or reschedule.  Captain Chris wants you to have a safe and enjoyable trip. Rule of thumb, we generally do not go out on bad days. The rain percentage does not necessarily mean it will rain.  Should the determination be made that bad weather will be a factor for your fishing charter the Captain will call you about rescheduling.

Is there a bathroom?

There is no bathroom or head on the boat., but there are restrooms located at the dock where we launch from. Captain Chris has been doing this for a long time, don’t be shy to let him know what you need, he will be happy to make sure you are comfortable.

What will we catch?

One of the best parts of fishing along the Nature Coast, is the huge variety of fish. Captain Chris specializes in quality inshore/nearshore and light tackle fishing, matching the equipment to the species of fish targeted.  He will recommend what types of fishing will be most productive and do everything possible to tailor it to your experience. Here is a list of fish you could catch while on your trip.

  • Red Fish
  • Jack Crevalle
  • Speckled Sea Trout
  • Cobia
  • Snook
  • Sheepshead
  • Spanish Mackerel
  • Snook
  • Small Shark
  • Mangrove Snapper
  • Lady Fish

Do you tip the captain?

Gratuities are never expected but greatly appreciated. If the captain did a good job, made the trip enjoyable and you had a good time you might consider rewarding those efforts.
